January is National Radon Action Month

Live green and make the air in your home healthy and clean.

Living green starts from the ground up. So make sure the air in your home is healthy for your family to breathe. Test your home for radon and build radon-resistant. It’s easy. Visit www.tn.gov/environment/ea/radon or call 1-800-232-1139.

RADON GETS IN THROUGH:

  1. Cracks in solid floors
  2. Construction joints
  3. Cracks in walls
  4. Gaps in suspended floors
  5. Gaps around service pipes
  6. Cavities inside walls
  7. The water supply

Lunch and Learn Energy Program

The City of Cookeville and Cookeville Electric Department recently sponsored a Lunch and Learn Energy Series geared toward saving money through education on energy use and reduction.  Employees learned ways to reduce their energy consumption by 20%.
During the Lunch-and Learn Sessions, energy consultants provided energy saving ideas for the home and office.  They shared the latest energy efficiency programs and incentives available.  The City of Cookeville believes knowledge is the best defense against high-energy bills.  This Energy Series gave information and recommendations about smart energy use and employees left with key recommendations that they could take home and act on immediately.  The Lunch & Learn series offered something for everyone, whether you were looking to buy a new home, remodel, or planning energy efficient improvements.

We had over 30 City of Cookeville employees attend all four sessions.  It was a great success and we plan to do this again in the future.

Cookeville 2030 Plan Adopted

The Cookeville City Council, through Ordinance No. O10-11-14, has adopted the Cookeville 2030 Plan.  The 2030 Plan is a comprehensive plan for the future development of the city and its urban growth boundary.  It was prepared and approved by the Cookeville Planning Commission.  The Plan contains analyses of various factors affecting future growth and development including environmental and natural factors, socio-economic factors, existing land use, and transportation.  A major component is the Development Plan, which consists of two interdependent elements, the first being the identification of goals and objectives and the establishment of policies for achieving them, and the second being the creation of a Future Land Use Concept Map which visually illustrates the goals, objectives and policies.  The Cookeville 2030 Plan may be accessed here.
